2017. A Year in Review…aaaannnnd THAT’S A WRAP!

2017 certainly was a great year for our Lakewood community! We saw lots of changes and improvements. We started out the fiscal year with a facelift for the lakefront. A new color scheme that included “haint blue” for the interior ceiling of our pavilion brightened it up and brought it to life. A tan exterior to the pavilion and a mossy green on the dock, shed, benches, posts and entrance were a perfect accent to bring everything together. Our newest Director (in 2017), Betty Anderson, did a fantastic job planting and caring for the beautiful flowers at both our entrance and pavilion. Her expertise was a great addition to our Board of Directors. We hired Northern Bay to tend to our lakefront and beach needs and Bruce and his crew did a fantastic job as well. The guys also seeded the hillside to prevent further erosion and relocated some landscape rock to the edge of the boat ramp. A new volleyball net was purchased and new baby swing hung. New noodles, weights and hardware were also purchased for the swim area. A step on the dock was repaired as well as the pot holes on the driveway. 2017 was also a great year for house sales in Lakewood and it certainly kept Secretary Maureen busy most of the Spring and Summer with filling out closing papers. We welcomed 18 new homeowners and several of them we were able to meet at the annual meeting….it’s always great to put a face with a name :). We also diligently plugged along trying to rectify all past due liens. We were able to release 7 liens to the tune of $1.625.99. When all was said and done, we ended our 2017 fiscal year with a surplus of $303.73 and had increased our gate fund by $7,664.89. We formally ended 2017 and welcomed 2018 last Saturday May 5th with our Annual Homeowner’s Meeting held at Northern Bay. There were approximately 45 people in attendance and it was a productive morning. After all business was addressed a name was pulled for a $5.00 gift card to Northern Bay, and Kelly Bain (that’s me!) won it! And as usual, we held a 50/50 drawing that Terry Lipchow won half of $101.00…..$50.50…..ironic, right?!!? Earlier in the meeting, Terry generously donated $100 to the gate fund…..Thanks Terry!!!! That was unexpected and certainly appreciated! Something that was not announced at the meeting is that if you have the 5% discount cards for Northern Bay that we handed out last year, they are going to continue to honor those through 2018 (even though they say 2017 on them)…..if you have one, please use it each and overtime you are there, as our relationship with our neighbors to the south has been invaluable. If you do not have one, while they are honoring them this year again, they are not giving us more and I have handed out what I had. Later that evening we held our second ever Movies Under the Stars at our lakefront pavilion…..the first one was held on the Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. It is always a great time and we plan to do this again soon! The Board of Directors would like to acknowledge and thank Claudia Kierzek and Terri Bullard for volunteering to be our “official ballot and proxy counters.”…you ladies rock! (And a big thanks to Tim Kierzek who carried the ridiculously heavy cooler full of beverages for about a city block, all the way from the parking lot!) We would also like to welcome our newest Directors to our Board….Terry Anderson and Kathleen Pugh. We all look forward to continuing our mission to take Lakewood to the next level!
