Bringing Lakewood Up to Date

As announced at the last May 2018 Homeowner’s meeting, the Lakewood Board of Directors has hired and been working with a law firm, Husch Blackwell, out of Madison that specializes in property owners and homeowners association law. Most homeowners who have ever taken a minute to read over our Bylaws and Covenants & Restrictions know that they are very vague and not easy to understand. Plus they do not really address our needs in this century. What you might NOT know is that these are also original Bylaws and Covenants & Restrictions dating back to 1984, making them very antiquated and certainly not responsive to our homeowners’ needs nor competitive with other Property/Homeowners Associations in the area. Our attorney made several “recommendations” so that we would be receptive to what our homeowners need in the present day. The next step was for the Board to have several meetings to go over these recommendations one by one and with a fine tooth comb. In doing so, all feedback and suggestions/questions we have received from our homeowners were taken into consideration as to which of the attorney’s recommendations were most important to the needs of Lakewood. This whole process has been quite lengthy. Our next step is to send our revisions back to the lawyers and they will generate those revisions for our homeowners to vote on. Some of revisions will need a 75% of the homeowners vote and other revisions will need 2/3 of the homeowners vote. Once these revisions are complete, they will be mailed out to ALL homeowners for your vote. Just like our yearly dues statement, it will have a “due date” for us to receive it back.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure that you complete and mail back your vote by that due date. These updates are so very crucial to maintaining Lakewood and keeping our property values up. Our Bylaws and Covenants & Restrictions are so dated and we have some really positive revisions planned in them that when instituted will help preserve Lakewood’s unique characteristics and help boost all of our property values. It is imperative that we follow through with these revisions so we keep the integrity of our neighborhood. Please watch for the mailing and cast your vote to preserve Lakewood. We don’t currently have a timeframe for when these voting forms will be sent out, but please keep an eye out for updates on both our website and our Facebook page. Let’s all work together to make this happen and to continue to improve Lakewood for years to come! It’s in all of our best interest 🙂
