Well, June ended and July started with some really extreme heat and making the mercury easily rise to 100 degrees on a few days! June 30th saw one of those 100 degree days for our annual Summer picnic. Uncomfortable weather to say the least….especially for yours truly as I spent an hour and half grilling burgers and dogs. With the excitement of all of our raffle prizes and the addition of entertainment this year, we had 104 people RSVP…..47 of which “no showed” presumably because of the intense heat. Aside from how uncomfortable the heat was, the entertainment was great and the raffle prizes were outstanding! Derek Buckley provided us with a nice mix of music ranging from John Mellencamp and Jimmy Buffett to country. If you are not familiar with him and you are looking for something to do on Saturday August 18th, Derek will be playing at Fawn Creek Winery in the Dells that day. Thanks to those homeowners who donated raffle prizes to make for a fun afternoon! Bob and Renelle Staus generously donated 2 $50.00 VISA/Master Cards….one of which was won by our newest homeowners Chuck and Kendra Sylvester! Other generous donations came from Tim and Claudia Kierzek (who were unable to attend) in the form of 2 $25.00 VISA cards and, of course, the prize that everyone wanted to go home with……the Lakewood signs that John and Diane Stormoen donated (John used his knowledge and expertise to make these and everyone LOVED them!) Through the generosity of local merchants we were able to collect raffle prizes and gift certificates to places like Lucy’s Bar and Grill, Spot in the Woods, Twin Creeks Nursery, Shopko, Ace Hardware and Point Bluff Resort. Lisa Caskey won the Grand Prize, a Northern Bay 18-hole golf package with a cart and Sandie Weigel won $64.00 in the 50/50 chance. Jeff Pugh was the lucky winner of the tubing trip for 2 that included a floating cooler (a $58.00 value) donated by Point Bluff Resort . As with all advertisers on our website, please patronize these businesses as they help supplement our income. Aside from tubing, Point Bluff is a great stop on your way in on a Friday night to catch a Fish Fry, say ‘hi” to owners Fred and Julie and have a cocktail on the deck overlooking the river! Again, a HUGE thank you to our homeowners for their creativity and generosity and for supplying us with a variety of prizes!
Just a reminder to everyone….”policing” our lakefront and neighborhood is everyone’s responsibility. We all have a vested interest, so if you see something that LOOKS suspicious…..it PROBABLY IS. All suspicious activity should be immediately reported to the authorities (all numbers for the sheriff, DNR, fire department, etc. are posted on our lakefront bulletin board) and by all means let us know at talktous@lakewoodpoa.org as well. This reminder comes simply because sometime on Sunday July 1st, our lakefront porto-potty was tipped over and people continue to leave trash (beer cans, dirty diapers, beer bottles….broken and otherwise).
Bruce and his crew are again this year doing a great job with lawn and beach care. The beach looks fantastic after their periodic beach combing of the entire beach. Unfortunately (unlike last year) we have a bad algae year happening right now, so you will see some green our shoreline. Hopefully it won’t hang out in our bay too long!!!!
If you haven’t had an opportunity to partake in our Lakewood golf special yet, do so before that ad changes. It’s as easy as going to our website to reference the promo code on Northern Bay’s ad and give that code when you reserve your tee time. Hopefully between all of the extreme heat and rain this Summer you all have had time to enjoy Lakewood and Castle Rock Lake areas!
