The year was 1983. A couple from Cudahy, Wisconsin were looking for a place “up north” to vacation with their 5 kids. On their list of criteria was a destination with a manageable drive. In the process of their search they discovered a little up and coming subdivision in Central Wisconsin that was advertising a location by a lake and a half hour from the Dells, which with 5 kids to entertain, that was a huge plus! In addition to that you got to choose one of four different style houses to be built to your specifications and you got to choose from 1 of 382 lots that they were selling. The house styles, as we know them, are a classic Ranch, Alpine, A-Frame and a Salt Box. One of each style were featured as model homes in what was then called “the meadows” and at the time had no trees and was located just off 20th Avenue in our subdivision. To the south was the old Melody Waves Campground which is now Northern Bay. Like so many of us, the Geigers, immediately fell in love with the area and the concept of what Lakewood would/could become in the future. They choose a 1/2 acre plot of land over on 19th Drive and choose a Salt Box style house as their vacation home. The Geiger Family, headed up by Lou and Judy, became one of our very first association members and still own to this day. Not only were the Geigers one of the original owners, but soon thereafter, Lou found himself serving on the Board of Directors as our first official President! As a father of five and now President, what better thing is there to organize than a Summer picnic! Yup! Art organized our first Summer picnic as well!
Fast forward 33 years…..Lou is no longer with us, but his spirit lives on. Lou’s wife, Judy and son, Scott will be joining us at this years picnic on Saturday July 2nd. The Geigers are firm believers that Lakewood is OURS and have generously donated many, many items for this year’s raffle! We cannot thank the Geigers enough….Lou, for what he started and Judy and Scott for their generosity and thought that they put into each raffle item. All proceeds from these raffle items will go into our gate fund! Along with these items they also will be providing Freeze Pops for each kid in attendance. Niiiiice!
Just a reminder to everyone attending….bring your cash 🙂 Not only do we have a great selection of raffle prizes that includes coolers, tools, weather radio, wooden toilet seat, solar lights, gift cards and other prize packages just to name a few things, but we will have our usual 50/50 drawing AND we will be introducing 2 different style T-shirts with our new Lakewood logo on it! T-shirts range in size from M-2XL and cost $18.00 each.
Raffle tickets (for PRIZES ONLY) will be $1.00 a ticket….6 for $5.00….30 for $20.00.
ALL tickets for 50/50 raffle are a BUCK APIECE.
We also have a KIDS ONLY raffle with several “kid friendly” items. Kid tickets are .50 each OR 3 for $1.00
ALL money generated from all of the above raffles, as well as the T-shirt sales goes directly into our gate fund! Just a crazy fact: If each picnic goer purchases $20.00 in raffle prize tickets, we will increase our gate fund by $2,600. How awesome would that be?!
We look forward to seeing those who are attending the picnic.
